India reports significant agricultural growth and farmer financial gains
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India's agriculture budget has increased more than fivefold since 2013-14. He stated that farmers have received or saved over Rs 50 lakh crore through various government schemes and policy decisions.
Key interventions cited include the PM-KISAN scheme, which has transferred approximately Rs 4.5 lakh crore directly into the bank accounts of small farmers. Additionally, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana has provided more than Rs two lakh crore in crop insurance compensation over the last decade. The PM-KUSUM scheme has also expanded solar-powered irrigation, providing around 12 lakh solar pumps to reduce reliance on diesel and electricity.
Since 2015, India has seen a shift toward a more diversified and technology-driven agricultural system. Agricultural growth accelerated to approximately 4.5 per cent during the 2015–2025 period, compared to previous averages. Recent years have seen a significant increase in food grain production, rising by 22.1MT per annum.
