India restores commercial LPG supply after West Asia tension eases
The Indian government has removed all sector‑based bans on commercial packed LPG and partially reinstated bulk LPG deliveries. The move follows an assessment that geopolitical tension in West Asia, including smoother traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and softer crude‑oil prices, has improved global LPG availability.
Hotels, restaurants, catering units, factories and other large‑scale users can now obtain 19 kg commercial cylinders at normal levels, and the earlier 15‑day booking‑interval rule has been scrapped. Bulk LPG will be supplied at up to 50 % of pre‑crisis consumption, while domestic household LPG remains the top priority with assured daily production of at least 40,000 metric tonnes.
The ministry also retained monitoring measures to prevent hoarding, such as a 25‑day refill interval for cylinders and a requirement for oil‑marketing firms to maintain detailed consumer data. Prices for both domestic and commercial cylinders have not changed immediately, though future rates may follow international market movements.
