India revises EPFO statutory wage ceiling to ₹25,000

The Indian government has amended the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), 2026, by revising the statutory wage ceiling for mandatory social security contributions. Effective from September 17, 2026, the wage ceiling has been increased from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month.

This revision expands the scope of mandatory coverage under the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), and the Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) schemes. Under the new rules, employees earning up to ₹25,000 per month will be required to participate, with both employees and employers contributing based on this higher limit.

The adjustment addresses the fact that the previous ₹15,000 ceiling had remained unchanged since September 2014. The update ensures that more workers are included in the social security framework, particularly as statutory minimum wages in several states and union territories had already surpassed the previous limit.
