Strait of Hormuz: 62 India-bound vessels transit safely amid regional crisis
Sixty-two vessels carrying cargo destined for India have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz despite ongoing regional instability in West Asia. According to Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, 23 of these vessels were Indian-flagged and 39 were foreign-flagged.
As part of a large-scale safety effort, 4,052 Indian seafarers have been repatriated from the Gulf region. To support those affected, the government has released 10 lakh rupees via the Seafarers Welfare Fund Society to assist families.
To mitigate risks, the Directorate General of Shipping has advised against deploying Indian seafarers on voyages through the Gulf region and has implemented full International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code measures. India has also established a 24/7 maritime control room and the eNavik digital platform to monitor vessel movements and manage crises in real time.
