India’s MEA says 2,273 Indian nationals deported from US in 2026

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that 2,273 Indian nationals have been deported from the United States to India from 1 January to 31 July 2026. The ministry said 3,567 Indians were deported in 2025.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal explained that the ministry works with foreign governments on deportation cases and conducts due‑diligence to verify each person’s Indian nationality before facilitating their return. He reiterated India’s long‑standing stance against illegal migration while supporting safe, legal pathways for migration.

The briefing also touched on broader US‑India issues: the White House defended President Donald Trump’s $100,000 H‑1B visa fee and said it would appeal a federal judge’s ruling striking the fee down. India said it is monitoring a US Senate‑passed sanctions bill targeting major importers of Russian oil, noting its own energy‑security priorities.
