India screens nearly 11,000 travelers for Ebola after outbreak declared PHEIC

Since May 23, India has screened 10,974 international passengers arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan for Ebola. The screening, carried out at airports and other points of entry through self‑declaration forms and the Air Suvidha portal, includes health checks and temperature assessments. No Ebola cases have been detected among the travelers.

The measures were intensified after the World Health Organization declared the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern and the Africa CDC declared a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, together with the National Centre for Disease Control, ICMR, DGHS and several other ministries, issued SOPs covering surveillance, quarantine, laboratory testing, PPE and case reporting. The government continues to coordinate with international health agencies and maintains vigilance to prevent any spread of the virus.
