India secures 4th place at 2026 Asian Games; to host Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship
India concluded the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with a total of 85 medals, placing 4th overall in the final standings. The tally included 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze medals. Gold medal victories were achieved across nine different sports, including cricket, kabaddi, hockey, shooting, archery, athletics, and boxing.
Following India’s success in both men’s and women’s kabaddi at the Asian Games, the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) has announced the inaugural Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship 2026. The tournament is scheduled to take place from October 21 to October 31, 2026, at the Veer Savarkar Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Fourteen nations are set to compete in the championship, including Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, and England. The event serves as a potential precursor to the inclusion of kabaddi in the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which India is slated to host.
