India secures 2-0 T20I series lead with comeback win over New Zealand

India extended its lead to 2-0 in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand following a dramatic four-wicket victory at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Chasing a target of 181, India faced a significant setback when Mitchell Santner’s four-wicket haul reduced the visitors to 70/5. However, Tilak Varma anchored the recovery with an unbeaten 51 off 26 balls, supported by Nitish Kumar Reddy, who scored an unbeaten 26 to hit the winning runs with one ball to spare.

The victory marked a historic milestone for the Indian cricket team, which became the first nation to record 200 T20I wins across international, domestic, and franchise formats. Additionally, India became the first team to achieve 200 wins in 300 T20I matches played.

Following the defeat, New Zealand announced workload management rotations for its fast bowlers. Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson will miss upcoming matches to manage physical strain, with Henry set to rejoin the squad for the ODI series in November.
