India security warned of potential colour revolution amid CJP protests
Savio Rodrigues has warned the Indian government to remain vigilant against potential destabilisation efforts following protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The CJP is currently protesting against India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, amid allegations regarding the independence of the electoral process and electoral-roll revisions.
While there is currently no verified evidence that the mobilisation is foreign-directed or intended to cause fatalities, Rodrigues suggests that such protests can serve as the foundation for a ‘colour revolution’. He notes that grievances against electoral institutions could potentially escalate into wider campaigns aimed at undermining constitutional authority and targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Rodrigues cites the political crises in Bangladesh and Nepal as cautionary examples of how youth mobilisation and institutional distrust can rapidly escalate into national instability.
