Russia strikes Kyiv and Odessa, killing 12 and hitting infrastructure

Russia has launched a massive wave of air strikes against Ukraine, marking the sixth consecutive day of intense attacks on the Kyiv region. The offensive, which utilized ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and a significant number of drones, has resulted in at least 12 deaths and numerous injuries. A major impact was recorded at a railway depot in Kyiv, where a ballistic missile strike killed several employees of the state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia.

In the Kyiv suburb of Boryspil, strikes damaged a residential building, leading to evacuations and several casualties. The attacks also targeted energy infrastructure, including a thermal power plant in the Odessa region, leaving thousands of families without electricity. Additionally, a strike damaged a border crossing point with Romania at Orlivka.

Ukrainian officials have noted a shift in Russian tactics, specifically the increased use of jet-powered drones that are harder to intercept. In response, the European Union is discussing the transfer of interceptor missiles to Ukraine, including those with nearing service lives. Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities have advised citizens in Kyiv to stockpile essential food and water due to potential disruptions in supply chains caused by strikes on logistics and warehouse facilities.
