India seeks sustainable path for Chabahar Port amid West Asia conflict

India is engaged in discussions with stakeholders to establish a sustainable path for the Chabahar Port project. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted that shifting regulatory regimes and ongoing conflicts in West Asia have impacted regional cooperation and the specific activities permitted at the port.

Following a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the SCO summit in Bishkek, Misri emphasized India’s long-standing commitment to the project. The discussions also touched upon regional stability, with President Pezeshkian expressing gratitude for India’s support in fostering peace and noting that the prolongation of conflict serves no one’s interest.
