India seizes over a tonne of ganja in Kerala and Odisha crackdown

Police in Kerala’s Ernakulam district seized 110 kg of cannabis and arrested four suspects, who police say travelled from Odisha and used multiple train routes to smuggle the drug. The Kerala Excise Department described the haul as one of the largest recent seizures in the district.

In Odisha’s Malkangiri district, police recovered roughly 1.015 tonnes of ganja—valued at about Rs 10 crore—from a forested area before it could be moved to states such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. The traffickers fled after receiving a tip about the operation. Both incidents are part of a broader investigation into an interstate cannabis‑smuggling network.

Authorities have opened detailed inquiries to trace the supply chain and identify the masterminds behind the large‑scale narcotics trade.
