India selected to host 2027 WTTC Global Summit

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has announced that India will host the 2027 WTTC Global Summit in New Delhi. The selection follows a competitive process involving 21 destinations. India is currently one of the world’s fastest-growing tourism economies; in 2025, the sector contributed US$263.6 billion to the economy and supported 46.2 million jobs. WTTC projects that India will rise from the 10th-largest to the 4th-largest travel and tourism economy by 2036.

In related industry news, South Africa has received the WTTC Global Champion Award for tourism leadership. The award, presented in Valletta, Malta, recognizes the country’s efforts in policy coordination and industry engagement. South Africa’s tourism sector is projected to support 1.9 million jobs in 2025, accounting for approximately 11.3 per cent of total national employment, with an economic contribution expected to reach ZAR 659.8 billion.
