Naman Dhir makes India ODI debut against West Indies
Naman Dhir made his men’s One Day International (ODI) debut for India during the first match of a three-game series against the West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The 26-year-old batting all-rounder, who plays for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, became India’s 264th ODI player. Dhir received his debut cap from captain Shubman Gill and noted that he had only learned of his selection the previous evening, which made it difficult to sleep.
In the first innings, the West Indies scored 295/7. Dhir contributed as a part-time off-spinner, bowling five overs and conceding 33 runs. While his inclusion provides batting depth, some analysts have questioned the decision to select an additional all-rounder over a specialist frontline bowler, given the current composition of the Indian bowling attack.
During the subsequent run chase, veteran opener Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 32 runs off 35 deliveries by Alzarri Joseph. Former cricketer Dinesh Karthik commented on the dismissal, suggesting fans should remain patient with the veteran batter.
