In the utility-scale sector, domestic central inverters have demonstrated competitiveness in cost, delivery, and performance specifically tailored to Indian grid conditions, such as frequency dips and seasonal voltage swings. This movement toward domestic manufacturing is viewed as a way to reduce long-term dependency on imports and retain capital within the country.
To achieve a fully integrated ecosystem, experts emphasize the necessity of developing domestic polysilicon capacity. While establishing manufacturing capacity is a critical step toward reducing supply-chain dependencies, long-term success will require a policy environment that supports commercially sustainable investments, provides access to competitive energy, and ensures a skilled workforce to manage the capital and energy-intensive production processes.
