India solar manufacturing and storage capacity see significant growth

India's renewable energy sector saw significant capacity growth in the first half of 2026. According to Mercom India, the country added 50.6 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity and 9.7 GW of solar cell capacity. Battery energy storage capacity also surged to 8.2 GWh, a massive increase compared to the 98.4 MWh installed during the same period in 2025. To support this, the Indian Union Cabinet approved the Green Energy Corridor Phase III (GEC III) program, designed to facilitate the evacuation of 135 GW of renewable energy and the deployment of 50 GWh of battery energy storage systems.

In the financial sector, Ahmedabad-based Vishakha Renewables, backed by the Adani Group, has filed a Draft Red Herring Prospectus with SEBI for an Initial Public Offering (IPO). The offering includes a fresh issue of ₹1,250 crore and an Offer for Sale of 1.81 crore equity shares. Unlike Borosil Renewables, which focuses primarily on solar glass, Vishakha Renewables maintains a broader manufacturing portfolio including solar glass and anodized aluminum frames.
