India-supported development projects inaugurated in Bhutan’s Mongar
Fifteen High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) supported by the Government of India have been inaugurated in the Mongar district of Bhutan. The infrastructure improvements include over 65 km of roads, 10 km of irrigation canals, and two bridges.
The projects were inaugurated by the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indian Embassy in Thimphu, alongside local officials including the Dasho Dzongdag and Gups of 17 Gewogs. These initiatives are designed to improve safety, convenience, and economic opportunities for local farmers, students, and families by enhancing market access and daily mobility.
This development follows similar inaugurations in the Panbang area of the Zhemgang district in August. These efforts are part of a broader cooperation framework where India provides support for Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2024–2029). During recent bilateral talks, officials reviewed the implementation of India’s support, which totals approximately Nu 100 billion for the plan period, covering various assistance programs and economic stimulus initiatives.
