India Supreme Court says courts open as student protests intensify

Chief Justice Surya Kant told reporters that the Supreme Court "is open for all citizens 24 × 7 and never refuses to hear a matter," correcting what he said was a mis‑representation of earlier remarks. He added that petitions related to the student movement, including a request for immediate intervention in a police‑action case, were scheduled for hearing on Monday, while emphasizing that filings alone cannot trigger an instant hearing.

The student protests, organised under the banner of the Cockroach People's Party (CJP), continue at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is expected to join the demonstrators on Monday, showing the opposition’s support for the demonstrators' demands.
