India targets 100-medal haul at Asian Games
India enters the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya aiming to match or exceed its record 107-medal haul from the Hangzhou Games. This performance is viewed as a key component of India’s broader ambition to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, with Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stating the nation must be firmly established on the world sporting stage by that time.
Despite the absence of star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra due to a torn ligament, India expects strong contributions from shooting, athletics, archery, and badminton. The contingent also seeks to defend gold medals in cricket and maintain high performance in field hockey, kabaddi, squash, wrestling, and weightlifting.
