India targets 5,000 Global Capability Centres by 2030, says Finance Minister

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced at the CII National GCC Business Summit in New Delhi on 9 July 2026 that India aims to host about 5,000 Global Capability Centres (GCCs) by 2030. The country already houses more than 2,100 GCCs, employing over 2.3 million people and generating roughly $100 billion in annual revenue, making it the world’s largest organised knowledge‑export hub.

Sitharaman highlighted that US firms account for two‑thirds of the centres, with companies from Germany, the UAE, Denmark and others expanding rapidly. New GCCs are increasingly AI‑first, with over 1,200 centres embedding AI and machine‑learning capabilities and a dedicated network of AI Centres of Excellence.

Economically, GCCs contributed about $68 billion in direct gross value added in FY 2025 (around 1.6‑2 % of India’s GDP). Projections suggest this could rise to $155‑199 billion by FY 2030, potentially supporting 4‑5 million direct jobs and up to 20‑25 million jobs indirectly across real‑estate, supply chains and services.
