India targets mining sector modernization through AI and digital technology
India is prioritizing technology and innovation to enhance the efficiency, safety, and global competitiveness of its mining and metals sector. The government's strategy focuses on modernizing exploration, implementing digital systems, and adopting sustainable practices.
Key technologies identified for integration include artificial intelligence, automation, digital mapping, remote sensing, drones, and data-based monitoring. These tools are expected to improve decision-making, reduce operational risks by minimizing worker exposure to hazardous conditions, and optimize equipment maintenance through real-time monitoring.
During a FICCI conference, officials emphasized that digitalization and credible data can increase transparency and accountability. Strengthening the mining and materials ecosystem is viewed as a critical component of India's broader ambition to become a technologically advanced and self-reliant manufacturing economy.
