India GST revenue rises 14.8% to nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in August
India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue rose 14.8% year-on-year in August, reaching approximately Rs 1,99,853 crore. This marks the third consecutive month of double-digit growth.
Revenue growth was driven significantly by a 29% surge in taxes from imports, totaling Rs 62,604 crore, while domestic tax collections grew by 9.3% to Rs 1,37,249 crore. After accounting for a 67.9% increase in refunds, which totaled Rs 31,795 crore, the net GST collection stood at Rs 1,68,057 crore, an 8.3% increase compared to the previous year.
Economic experts suggest that strong consumer spending and festive season shopping are expected to maintain this momentum in the coming months. The 57th GST Council meeting is scheduled for September 12, 2026, in New Delhi.
