India Tests Nuclear-Capable Agni-4 Ballistic Missile with 4,000 km Range

India successfully test‑fired the Agni‑4 medium‑range ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, Odisha. The launch, overseen by the Strategic Forces Command, validated all operational and technical parameters.

Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, Agni‑4 is a two‑stage solid‑propellant missile capable of carrying nuclear or conventional payloads up to 1,000 kg. It has a reported range of about 4,000 km, allowing it to reach strategic centres across mainland China and parts of Southeast, West and Central Asia. The missile features an advanced re‑entry heat shield, inertial guidance with ring‑laser gyroscopes, and an accuracy of less than 100 m CEP.

Senior defence officials, including the Defence Secretary, the DRDO chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, observed the test, which underscores India’s growing long‑range precision‑strike capability and its nuclear deterrence posture.
