India to cover export certification costs for micro and small firms

India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has announced that the government is willing to cover the entire cost of expensive export certifications for micro and small enterprises under the Export Promotion Mission. Speaking in Berlin, Goyal stated that the initiative aims to help smaller businesses overcome high market-entry barriers and improve global competitiveness.

The support is specifically intended to assist firms in meeting international compliance standards, including the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and deforestation-related requirements. While micro and small businesses may receive full cost coverage, Goyal indicated that other exporters could receive financial support on a graded basis.

To further reduce compliance burdens, the government is exploring the approval of verification agencies within India to improve access to necessary testing and expertise. Exporters are encouraged to contact the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to seek assistance under these guidelines.
