India to digitize hotel check-ins using Aadhaar QR codes and OTPs
New regulations are being introduced to digitize the hotel check-in process in India, reducing the requirement for guests to provide physical photocopies or photographs of their Aadhaar cards.
Under the proposed system, identity verification will transition to digital methods. Travelers may be required to show a QR code stored within the Aadhaar app or undergo verification via an One-Time Password (OTP) sent to their registered mobile number.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is working to streamline these processes. The shift aims to minimize the inconvenience of travelers needing to obtain physical copies of documents during transit while enhancing the security and privacy of personal data by reducing the amount of sensitive information retained by hotels.
