India to finalize U.S. trade deal amid changing circumstances
India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated that the interim bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the United States will be finalized in light of changing circumstances. While a framework for the agreement was announced in February, Goyal noted that shifts in U.S. tariff policies necessitate a review to ensure the deal aligns with national interests.
India is seeking lower tariffs in the American market to remain competitive against other nations. The negotiations follow recent shifts in U.S. trade policy, including a uniform 10 percent tariff applied to all countries for a 150-day period. Goyal previously met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Milwaukee to discuss these issues.
In addition to the U.S. negotiations, India is actively pursuing trade discussions with several other regions and nations, including Israel, Chile, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
