India to invest ₹11,639 crore in Vibrant Villages Programme

The Indian government has launched a large-scale initiative under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) to develop over 2,616 villages located along the country's international borders. With a total outlay of ₹11,639 crore, the program aims to transform these border areas into pillars of development and national security.

The initiative focuses on providing essential infrastructure and services, including road connectivity, electricity, telecommunications, healthcare, education, drinking water, and digital connectivity. By improving livelihoods and modernizing infrastructure, the government seeks to enhance the living standards of residents and prevent migration from these remote regions caused by geographic isolation and lack of opportunity.

India shares over 15,000 kilometers of land borders with seven countries, including Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, Nepal, Myanmar, Bhutan, and Afghanistan. The program is being implemented in two phases, VVP-1 and VVP-2, to build self-reliant communities and ensure these border areas are integrated into the national mainstream.
