India to invest Rs 28,840 crore in UDAN scheme over 10 years

The Indian government plans to invest approximately Rs 28,840 crore over the next decade to expand the UDAN regional connectivity scheme. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced the initiative during a Civil Aviation Consultative Committee meeting in Mysuru, stating the goal is to strengthen air connectivity across the country.

Minister Naidu noted that the government is working with various states to improve aviation infrastructure, enhance connectivity, and ensure more efficient airport operations and management. This investment follows a decade of progress under the flagship scheme.

Additionally, the Minister recently launched a scaled-up phase of transshipment cargo reform at Delhi International Airport Limited’s Transshipment Excellence Centre. This reform aims to reduce cargo transit times and handling costs by eliminating the need for mandatory re-screening of transshipment cargo.
