India to launch first approved dengue vaccine in 2027

India is set to introduce its first approved dengue vaccine, Qdenga, in the first half of 2027. Developed by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda, the vaccine received marketing authorization from India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) in July 2026.

Takeda has entered into an agreement with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories to promote and distribute the vaccine within India’s private healthcare market for both pediatric and adult populations aged 4 to 60 years. The vaccine is a live-attenuated tetravalent shot designed to protect against all four dengue virus serotypes (DENV-1 through DENV-4).

The rollout follows a scientific evaluation of the vaccine’s safety and efficacy, which included clinical evidence and Phase III studies involving the Indian population. While the vaccine has already received regulatory approval in 42 countries and WHO prequalification, its commercial availability in India remains subject to completing local registration, import licensing, and quality-release processes.
