India to launch new RBI data centre in Odisha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a new Reserve Bank of India (RBI) greenfield data centre and Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute in the Khordha district of Odisha on October 25. Developed at a cost of Rs 169 crore, the 18.55-acre facility will serve as a critical backup to the RBI’s primary data centre in Navi Mumbai, enhancing disaster recovery and cybersecurity frameworks for India’s financial sector.
The site in Info Valley-II was chosen for its geographical stability and to minimize exposure to seismic risks and geopolitical vulnerabilities. By locating the facility away from major digital hubs like Mumbai and Chennai, the RBI aims to insulate its operations from concentrated cyber risks and network vulnerabilities.
Separately, addressing the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi stated that India’s banking system is in its strongest position. He highlighted the nation’s digital transformation, noting that affordable mobile data has expanded access to education and economic opportunities, while the inclusive digital payments ecosystem now serves a wide range of users from small vendors to large corporations.
