India to play two‑test series in Sri Lanka starting August 15
The India national cricket team will tour Sri Lanka for a two‑match Test series that begins on 15 August and runs through 19 August. The series forms part of the 2023‑2025 World Test Championship and gives India a chance to improve its standing in the competition.
Shubman Gill leads the Indian side, replacing former captain Rohit Sharma, who has retired from Test cricket. India previously played Sri Lanka in a home‑and‑away series four years ago, winning both matches in Mohali and Bengaluru. The last Test on Sri Lankan soil involving India was in 2017, when India won 3‑0.
Historically, India has played 24 Tests in Sri Lanka, winning nine, losing seven and drawing eight. The upcoming fixtures will include a four‑day practice match to help the visitors acclimatise to local conditions.
