India to provide 100% government funding for medical device testing

The Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD) has welcomed an announcement by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal regarding 100% government funding for advanced testing equipment in the medical devices sector.

AiMeD stated that this commitment aims to build a globally competitive manufacturing ecosystem and supports the goal of making India one of the top five global medical device manufacturing hubs. Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator for AiMeD, noted that advanced testing infrastructure is a critical component that will help Indian manufacturers transition from being merely cost-competitive to being technology and quality competitive on a global scale.

The association highlighted that shared, internationally accredited testing facilities will particularly benefit startups and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by reducing prohibitive costs and accelerating innovation. The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on overseas testing and strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities.
