India: Update Minor PAN Card to Major status after turning 18
Under Income Tax Department regulations, individuals must update their Minor PAN Card to a Major PAN Card once they reach the age of 18. While a PAN card issued during minority remains valid, it lacks the individual's own photograph and signature, often featuring a blank space or the signature of a parent or legal guardian instead.
To ensure the document is valid for official government work, bank KYC, and financial transactions, adults must update their existing PAN records with their current photograph, personal signature, and any changes to personal details such as name, date of birth, or address. This process involves updating the existing PAN data rather than applying for a new PAN number. Updates can be requested through official service providers such as Protean eGov or UTIITSL.
