Pakistan-occupied Kashmir crackdown protests international condemnation elections

A violent crackdown by Pakistani security forces in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir (PoK/PoJK) has left more than 50 civilians dead and hundreds injured. The bloodshed coincided with local‑body and legislative elections, prompting the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) to intensify protests over rising living costs, alleged administrative neglect and political discrimination.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs, represented by spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, urged the international community to scrutinise Pakistan’s actions and hold it accountable for what it called “atrocities”. Pakistan’s defence minister, Khawaja Asif, responded by labeling the demonstrators as “enemies like India”. The crackdown was accompanied by an internet blackout and severe restrictions on media access.

The United Nations, the European Union, the United States and several Western governments have condemned the use of force against peaceful protesters, calling for an independent investigation and an end to the violence.
