India urges UN to dismantle environments sheltering terrorist networks

During a United Nations Security Council meeting, India’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, called on the international community to dismantle environments that shelter transnational terrorist networks. While not explicitly naming Pakistan, Harish highlighted that the same permissive environments that sheltered the architects of the September 11 attacks have continued to provide space and impunity for affiliates of al-Qaeda, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Harish noted that al-Qaeda’s ecosystem has established strategic depth beyond Afghan borders. He referenced the history of the 9/11 attacks, noting that the leaders who directed the plot were protected in ungoverned frontiers, specifically mentioning that Osama bin Laden was eventually tracked down and killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan. India urged for action against these sanctuaries to prevent further attacks on any nation or its citizens.
