India voter list revision: Authorities launch drives to restore deleted names

Election authorities in India are launching initiatives to address discrepancies in voter rolls following Special Intensive Revision (SIR) processes. In one region, a month-long house-to-house verification drive will commence to re-enrol approximately 1.39 lakh citizens whose names were omitted due to documentation issues or mapping discrepancies.

Booth level officers (BLOs) will visit affected households to assist residents in submitting Form 6 for reinstatement. While names of deceased individuals or those who have permanently relocated will remain excluded, eligible voters who were removed due to administrative errors can regain their voting rights through this verification process.

In the East Godavari district, the SIR process identified 1,81,011 voters as unavailable at their assigned addresses due to death, migration, or relocation. Local officials, including Collector Kirthi Chekuri, stated that steps are being taken to ensure every eligible voter is registered while removing ineligible entries. Significant numbers of unavailable or ineligible voters were noted across several constituencies, including Anaparthi, Mandapeta, Rajanagaram, and Rajamahendravaram.
