India wildlife encounters: Snakes found in residential areas

Recent wildlife encounters in India have highlighted the increasing overlap between human settlements and natural habitats. In Kerala's Palakkad district, a ninth-grade student narrowly avoided a bite when a spectacled cobra emerged from beneath a bicycle seat in his home's yard. Local SARPA volunteers and the Forest Department successfully captured the snake and released it back into the wild.

In a separate incident in Bihar, near the Valmiki Tiger Reserve, a king cobra and a python were observed in a standoff outside a family home in Bagaha. Residents alerted forest officials, and a rescue team safely removed both reptiles, returning them to the forest. Experts note that such encounters are often driven by habitat fragmentation and expanding human presence near wildlife corridors.
