Indian agencies coordinate to combat organized cybercrime
Thirteen Indian states and 11 central agencies convened in Hyderabad to strengthen coordinated action against organized cybercrime networks. The meeting, involving the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), focused on intelligence-sharing and joint operations to overcome jurisdictional limitations.
Telangana DGP C. V. Anand noted that cybercrime complaints increased by 24 percent across India in 2024-25. In contrast, Telangana reported a 3 percent decline in complaints and a 20 percent decrease in financial losses. TGCSB director Shikha Goel described cybercrime as an organized transnational ecosystem, while I4C CEO Rajesh Kumar noted the movement of scam operations from Southeast Asia to regions including Africa and Sri Lanka.
Proposed reforms include a unified investigation platform and a Reserve Bank of India standard operating procedure to help banks halt suspicious transactions. Discussions also addressed AI-related legal accountability and AI-enabled detection tools.
