Indian Air Force delivers flood relief to Bihar

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed Mi-17 V5 helicopters to conduct flood relief operations in Bihar following rising water levels and breaches along the Gandak River. Operating from Patna, the IAF’s ‘Team Silver Falchions’ delivered 10 tonnes of essential relief materials to several areas in the Saran district, including Chakia, Prithvipur, Satjoda, Karcholia, and Maker.

The flooding follows significant rainfall in the border districts of West Champaran, East Champaran, and Gopalganj. On September 28, the water resources department reported a discharge of 543,500 cusecs from the Gandak Barrage at Valmikinagar. This discharge has impacted downstream districts such as West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Saran, Muzaffarpur, and Vaishali. Despite a slightly lower peak discharge compared to 2024, the river reached a new all-time high water level of 91.25 meters at the Bagaha gauge site.
