Indian Air Force marks 94th anniversary with combat displays

The Indian Air Force (IAF) celebrated its 94th anniversary on October 8, 2026, with major ceremonies held at the Hindan Air Force Station in Uttar Pradesh, as well as in Jodhpur and Varanasi.

During the parade at Hindan, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh emphasized the force's combat readiness and the critical role of air power in modern warfare. He noted that the IAF has demonstrated speed and effectiveness in operations such as 'Operation Sindoor' and remains prepared for emerging threats. Singh also highlighted the IAF's commitment to humanitarian efforts, including disaster relief during floods and wildfires.

The celebrations featured a display of frontline combat assets, including Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MKI, MiG-29, and Tejas fighter jets, alongside Apache helicopters and C-17 transport aircraft. The 2026 theme for the anniversary is 'Indian Air Force – Unfailing, Impenetrable and Precise'.

Tracing its history back to its establishment in 1932 under British rule, the IAF has evolved from a small unit of four Westland Wapiti aircraft and 25 personnel into a major global air power, currently ranked 6th in the 2026 global air power rankings.
