India and Japan launch Veer Guardian 2026 air exercise in Jodhpur

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) have commenced the second edition of their bilateral combat exercise, ‘Veer Guardian 2026’. Held at the Air Force Station Jodhpur, the 14-day exercise is scheduled to run from September 9 to September 22, 2026.

The exercise aims to strengthen strategic cooperation, enhance tactical proficiency, and improve interoperability between the two nations. The JASDF is participating with F-2A fighter aircraft, supported by C-2 transport aircraft. The IAF is deploying a diverse fleet of frontline combat aircraft, including the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, Su-30MKI, and Rafale.

Beyond aerial combat maneuvers, the program includes mission-planning conferences, subject matter expert exchanges, and technical interactions regarding engineering and aerospace safety. This engagement is intended to foster deep operational synergy and reaffirm the longstanding defense ties between India and Japan, particularly within the Indo-Pacific region.
