Indian-American Republicans face funding gap against Democratic incumbents

Federal Election Commission filings reveal a significant financial disparity between Indian-American Republican challengers and Democratic incumbents running for the US House of Representatives.

Ritesh Tandon, the Republican nominee for California’s 17th Congressional District, reported $5,227 in cash as of October 14. Tandon, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, is making his fourth attempt at the seat. In contrast, incumbent Democrat Ro Khanna reported having $16,936,477 in cash as of September 30.

In Washington’s 7th District, Republican nominee Nirav Sheth reported $5,043 in the bank. He faces Democratic incumbent Pramila Jayapal, who reported $1,767,956 in cash following a fundraising period between July 16 and September 30. The filings highlight the limited financial resources available to the Republican party’s Indian-American congressional candidates compared to established Democratic representatives.
