Indian American voters and candidates in 2026 US midterms

Indian American voters are emerging as an influential constituency in the 2026 US midterm elections, prompting candidates from both parties to increase community engagement. Outreach efforts include attending Diwali celebrations, visiting Hindu temples, and participating in cultural activities, such as Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico preparing dosas at an Indian restaurant in Texas.

Several Indian Americans are currently seeking or holding office. In Congress, Ami Bera, Pramila Jayapal, and Suhas Subramanyam are seeking reelection, while Ro Khanna is running for a fifth term in California’s 17th Congressional District. Khanna, a vice chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, has focused on manufacturing, technology, and science legislation.

Other prominent Indian American officials include Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval and Parsippany-Troy Hills Mayor Pulkit Desai. The community's influence is expected to be decisive in various closely contested races across the United States.
