Indian and Thai Armies conduct Exercise MAITREE-XV

The 15th edition of Exercise MAITREE is currently underway in Thailand, involving joint training between the Indian Army and the Royal Thai Army. The exercise, which began on August 18 and is scheduled to continue until August 31, is being held at the Vibhavadi Rangsit Camp in Surat Thani.

Each military contingent consists of 85 personnel. The Indian Army is primarily represented by troops from the 9 Gorkha Rifles, while the Royal Thai Army contingent includes members from the 3rd Battalion of the 25th Infantry Brigade’s 5th Division. The training focuses on company-level operations in jungle and semi-urban environments.

Modern warfare components are central to this year's drills, including UAV-supported operations, the use of information technology, counter-IED training, and martial arts exchanges. The primary objectives are to enhance interoperability, build trust, and develop combined capabilities for counter-insurgency and counter-terrorist operations, which may assist in future international peacekeeping missions under the UN charter.
