Indian archers secure historic gold at Asian Games
Indian archers have achieved historic success at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, securing the nation's first-ever gold medals in women's recurve archery.
Seventeen-year-old Kumkum Mohod made history by winning the women's individual recurve gold medal, defeating South Korean champion Kang Chae-young in the final. Mohod also contributed to a gold medal in the women's team event and earned a silver in the mixed team event. To maintain focus on her performance, Mohod noted she had abstained from her favorite treats, such as butterscotch ice cream, and limited her phone usage to essential communication with family and coaches.
Ankita Bhakat, who competed alongside Mohod and Kirti Sharma, dedicated the women's team gold to her family and the nation. The Indian trio defeated South Korea 5-3 in a tense final to secure the historic victory. The team emphasized that they focused on enjoying the opportunity and their collective hard work rather than succumbing to the pressure of winning.
