Indian Army commissions sewage treatment plant in Sikkim

The Indian Army's Trishakti Corps has commissioned a modern Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Changu, Sikkim, to improve sanitation and environmental protection in the high-altitude region. The facility utilizes indigenous technology developed by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), specifically designed to function under demanding climatic and terrain conditions.

Inaugurated by Pamin Lepcha, the MLA of the Gnathang-Machong constituency, the project aims to safeguard vital water resources and preserve the fragile ecosystem surrounding Tsomgo (Changu) Lake, which holds significant cultural and religious importance to the local population. The initiative highlights civil-military cooperation and the application of domestic scientific innovation to address environmental challenges in difficult terrains.
