Indian Army conducts joint Counter-IED training and utilizes specialized Ghatak Platoons

The Indian Army’s Eastern Command has conducted joint Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (Counter-IED) training for personnel from the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles. The program, led by the Eastern Command’s Counter Explosive Device Unit, included a Training of Trainers (ToT) course designed to build specialized capabilities in detecting, disrupting, and neutralizing IED threats.

The training focused on threat awareness, search procedures, and coordinated response mechanisms to improve synergy between the forces and enhance operational preparedness against evolving explosive tactics.

Additionally, specialized units known as Ghatak Platoons serve as the spearhead within Indian Army infantry battalions. These platoons, which translate to “deadly” or “lethal,” are tasked with reconnaissance, raids, and precision assaults. They operate ahead of main troops to gather intelligence on enemy positions and terrain, providing essential support for larger battalion operations.
