Indian Army destroys landmine along LoC in Poonch

The Indian Army detected and destroyed a landmine in the Mendhar subdivision of the Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. The explosive was discovered during routine patrolling in the Balakote forward area along the Line of Control (LoC) and was subsequently neutralized by a military bomb disposal team.

Landmines are utilized in these forward areas as part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system. However, officials noted that heavy rains and seasonal flooding can displace these mines from their original positions, posing significant risks to security patrols and local residents. This incident follows a similar event on October 5, where two landmines were neutralized via controlled explosion near the Basooni Top border fence.

Authorities have issued warnings to local residents, specifically farmers and children, to avoid touching or approaching any unfamiliar or washed-up metallic objects. Security forces have increased patrolling and drone surveillance in forest areas to manage both displaced explosives and infiltration threats.
