Army Major Hamza Arif Killed in Jaisalmer Camel Collision

An Army SUV traveling near the Thaiyat Army area in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district struck a camel around 12:30 a.m. on 31 July, overturning several times and skidding about 100 metres.

The crash killed Major Hamza Arif of Madhya Pradesh, who had married a month earlier. Lieutenant Ayushman and Lieutenant Abhinav Rathore were seriously injured and are receiving treatment at the Army Hospital in Thaiyat. The camel also died in the impact.

Local police and military police have opened a joint investigation to determine how the camel entered the road and other contributing factors. Defence PRO Lt Col Nikhil Dhawan said details are still being gathered.
