Indian Army mourns Major General Sunil Kumar Razdan

The Indian Defence Forces are mourning the death of Major General Sunil Kumar Razdan, a decorated officer and the first wheelchair-borne General in the Indian Army.

Major General Razdan, a recipient of the Kirti Chakra and Vishisht Seva Medal, gained distinction during a 1994 counter-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir. While leading an operation against Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists to rescue hostages, then-Lt Colonel Razdan sustained critical gunshot wounds to his abdomen that resulted in spinal injuries and paralysis below the waist. Despite his injuries, he successfully neutralized the threat and ensured the safe rescue of the hostages.

Following his recovery, he continued his military career with distinction, eventually serving at the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS). He is remembered as a symbol of resilience and valor within the military community.
